It is with such sadness that I write this note to say "good bye" to Keith.  We will all miss him so much.  It will be difficult to open up my email and not have a note from him, asking us to organize an event in Tulsa, to help raise money for a candidate that would support our causes, to give me directions on how to respond to a mean spirited piece of legislation, to help me organize a lobby day for PFLAG members, to come to Tulsa to give us direction on "How to talk to a Legislator".  He never, ever gave up, he never ever got tired, he always had energy to regroup and try another tactic.  He certainly would want us to carry on the good fight.  I hope that each of us will keep his spirit alive and with us as we continue to do the work he cared so deeply about.  I am so grateful for his friendship.   Nancy McDonald

Keith, we hardly knew ya. Thanks for all you did to make Oklahoma a more tolerant, humane place to live. Rest in Peace.

I met Keith Smith when I lived in Stillwater in 1979. I first met him when I was a bartender in POETS  and Keith was a regular customer.  He was everyone's friend and life of the party - traits he continued throughout his life. After I got married and "settled down" into Stillwater suburbia, I had a pajama party and Keith and his roommate showed up in their bathrobes because they didn't wear pajamas - thank goodness they had robes!

Years later after a divorce and a move to OKC I found Keith again when I went to work in Governor Bellmon's office in 1989. We've been in touch ever since and I will miss his kiss on the cheek and hug whenever he greeted me.  There are not many men in this world as kind, thoughtful, caring and generous as Keith - he is a role model. His death is a tremendous loss to everyone whose life he touched. I know you are watching and blessing us from heaven, Keith, and I thank God for putting you in my life.

Dearest Keith,
I tried to not write this. I don't want to say good-bye. However, it is Sunday morning and the reality of your passing stays with me, as does the "added injustice" that I can not be with you and friends on Dec.1 to cry, honor, celebrate you. And so I must write.

I will miss your smile, your laughter. I will miss your naiveté and your wisdom. You knew so much and yet were so open to learning. You were humble, and strong. And you were ALWAYS there.

How I wish I had done more for you...you did so much for me and for all of us. How I wish I had seen you during the last weeks of this election season...not just talked to you on the phone. How I hope you knew and know of my love and admiration. And I know you do; I just need so badly to tell you myself.

I promise to carry forth your work doing my part. Many of us will have to step more to the front. I know you will be there with us.

Thank you, God, for Your blessing of Keith in my life.

I miss u Keith.
